Breathtaking atmosphere in opulently decorated church, that doesn't do the music any justice. Not to the fault of any of the passionately playing musicians, the sound quality was absolutely horrendous. Concert halls have sound dampening all over for a reason. In the Karlskirche the sound of the cello and bass resonated so much that the busy parts of Vivaldi's 4 seasons were all but completely muffled out. The harpsichord could just as well not have been there... Maybe a different seating position would have made a difference, but I would expect my rank 1, row 9 position would be 'as good as it gets'. Too bad, because the musicians seemed to enjoy playing and put their hearts into it. The organization was flawless and blankets kept us comfortable.

I had never heard Vivaldi like this before. Lots of passion and emotion! It's music that is captivating and the musicians are also absorbed in it. A little tip: if it's cold, it's better to wear ski underwear and woolen socks. Blankets are provided.

The orchestra wasn't bad, they had the instruments under control of course, but the interpretation was very idiosyncratic to my ears and it was often more of a musical mush. The first violin didn't work for me at all. In my opinion, the performance was a complete self-presentation that left the orchestra alone and he also played some notes that didn't belong there. My favorite song was massacred to my ears. I thought the recorder in the piece before the 4 seasons was really great. Wow, it's amazing what you can get out of that instrument. And the location was great too. Visit on Friday .29.6.23
